Sewing a Patchwork Baby Quilt

One of my favorite things to sew is baby quilts - fast, pretty, and well-received! My cousin and his wife were due to have a baby and when I asked her what colors she'd like she told me pink, white and cream with a kind of southern shabby chic feeling. If you know my normal bright + bold color scheme this was pretty out of the norm for me & I was a little nervous about what I would be able to come up with!

I pulled some fabrics from my stash to get a feel for what it would look like and I was pleasantly surprised to see how much I loved the colors together - and how much pink I actually had! I ended up pulling a little mint in as well since one of the pink prints I had included mint and I loved the way the mint added a little more color.

I also added some text & black and white prints in to give it depth and contrast ... for a minute there it was kind of looking like a hot mess but I plugged along and got the top pieced and then once I was basting it I was starting to love it! I didn't plan the layout of the squares for the top, I just grabbed them and chain pieced them together until the top was big enough.

The end result was a quilt that I LOVED and couldn't wait to gift - it had come together better than I had hoped and is so pretty!

The backing was a pretty Dear Stella fabric that I had a yard of that went with the mint and cream colors from the front & looked a little southern-charm-ish. The binding was another cute little flower that went perfectly and was cute without being overly baby-ish! I think one of my favorite things about this quilt is how it's soft and pretty but not necessarily babyish!

The quilt was delivered last week and they love it! I love how this one turned out!
