The Zig Zag Quilt - Bloggers Quilt Festival

I've always liked the ROYGBV color scheme in quilts and one day last September (2009) I needed to sew.  I had just had Grahm and was desperate to get back to feeling like myself, to get myself back doing something that I loved, something just for me.

Between the hourly feedings and in between naps and diaper changes I pulled out some of the cheerful Recess line and started making half square triangles.

planning the layout & backing

After kiddo bedtime and before I crashed I would spend a few minutes every night sewing and putting these little triangles together one by one.  Triangles became squares and squares became a carefully planned out top.

The top was constructed and a bright, happy, orange fabric for backing was picked out and quilting began.  Nothing fancy, just straight lines that I could do easily in my exhausted state and with a newborn strapped into the Bjorn on my chest.

A stripey binding was assembled and sewn on, and the finished quilt was tossed into the wash.  Probably with some spit-up soaked clothing.

finished!

But it came out just fine.  The quilt is simple.  It's small.  It's not a complex pattern.  But it means a whole bunch to me.  It's special.  It's well-loved.  It's perfect.

Just like the baby it was made for.
